Second Life Design
Michael's Second Life experience have introduced him into the aspects of 3d design, Scripting, and creating a genuine user experience. His recent work involves several projects.
The project he just finished was Measuring Engagement and Interactivity in Virtual Environments and the information is summarized in this abstract. Also the full paper can be downloaded from here.
This summer he will be completing his research involving Libraries, Books, and Second Life. The video explaining his groups research can be downloaded here. A Mac compatible format is available here.
The most recent project that Michael is part of, is the Model Cultural Immersive Learning Environment. The project is a joint effort with Germanic Languages Department, Computer Science and Engineering, and the Department of Defense. The goal is to prove that SL can be used as immersive learning environment to teach culture and customs to participants. The second part of this project has scenarios similar to the Second Life ones but completely web based. The research aspect is to determine which is better or if each has there own place. This work can be seen at Second China from any Second Life account. A brief description can be found at this site. It is still being developed, and please excuse its incompleteness.
The future project is a Virtual Walk through of the Warrington College of Business with in SL as a tool for outreach and multimedia presentations. This will not be started until the second half of the summer.
